Zahid S Lawyers Caution Ex Ag Against Commenting On Uksb Probe
Former deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s lawyers have advised former attorney-general Tommy Thomas to refrain from making comments and passing judgment on investigation papers in the Foreign Visa System (VLN) corruption case which is currently being heard at the Shah Alam High Court.
The legal team led by Hisyam Teh Poh Teik in a statement said Thomas' reported comments are sub-judice and border on contempt of court.
"Prosecutorial discretion or indiscretion and lapses in investigations are live issues at the trial.
"The comments made by the ex-attorney general and carried by Malaysiakini under the headline ‘UKSB Ledger: Ex-AG says investigation papers didn’t have ‘micro-info’’ borders on contempt," said Zahid's lawyers.
Thomas (above) made the comments as a guest on lawyer and YouTuber Ang Woei Shang’s talk show, streamed online last night, to speak on the Chinese edition of his memoir ‘My Story: Justice in the Wilderness’.
Thomas had made references to Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd’s (UKSB) secret ledger which contains code names and details of alleged kickback payments made by the company to several prominent individuals between 2014 and 2018.
Details surrounding the secret ledger were first revealed in court through the testimony of former UKSB administrative manager David Tan last week, naming individuals including former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former minister Shafie Apdal as the alleged recipients of funds from the company.
The MACC has since announced that it would probe all individuals cited in the ledger.- Mkini
