Zahid Criticises Pac For Failing To Get Accurate Info On Semarak20 Sale

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today reprimanded the Public Accounts Committee for failing to gather accurate information regarding the sale of the Semarak20 commercial building on Jalan Semarak, Kuala Lumpur, which is operated by Felcra Bhd. Bernama picALOR GAJAH: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today reprimanded the Public Accounts Committee for failing to gather accurate information regarding the sale of the Semarak20 commercial building on Jalan Semarak, Kuala Lumpur, which is operated by Felcra Bhd.
This follows the concerns raised by the committee in its report published yesterday, which stated that the sale of the Semarak20 units is still pending and only in the discussion stage with the potential buyer.
As such, Zahid said he had instructed Felcra chairman Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub and chief executive officer Datuk Idris Lasim to explain the matter to the PAC.
"I request that the Felcra chairman and CEO provide clarification to the PAC so that the PAC doesn't just 'take in' information without proper assessment.
"This is because Felcra took out a loan to build the commercial building, and if the payments are not made (installments), it will result in a financial burden on the agency.
"The sale will be according to the market price and may be made through an open tender to ensure that the highest bidder will be able to buy the entire complex," he said, after chairing a coordination meeting with all state exco members in charge of the rural portfolio today.
In its report, the PAC expressed concern over the building, managed by Felcra, as it is reportedly still unsold with the proposal currently at the discussion stage with potential buyers.
It is understood that several local and international companies, including from Singapore, Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates, have shown interest in buying Semarak20 via en-bloc.
Four companies were said to have submitted letters of intent to buy the building. However, Felcra Properties Sdn Bhd is still waiting for them to submit price offers for further action. - NST
