KJ on Anwar's options: Cut ties with Umno, free Najib, talk to Muhyiddin
Mazhilamani: My thinking is that once all the national raiders of the country’s treasures are hauled up, charged, and sentenced in court, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s rating will substantially improve in the eyes of the Malays including PAS supporters.
It is important for the PM to ensure and notify how much has been robbed in each case and where the money is now, with the court demanding the return of money and the assets in any form, property, investment, jewellery, and land, local and overseas.
If the country’s prosecutors cannot perform a good job, then consider bringing expertise from overseas.
The dilemma Malaysians are facing is that there are groups that keep thinking that their leaders are saints and that whatever accusations against them are merely political stances. This doubt must be cleared.
Demanding for the PM to work with new parties and distancing from the others is not the political answer. It may crack up the existing unity government and help the sewage rats to roam freely.
World Citizen: These options presented by former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin are neither feasible nor good for the country. Khairy needs to be more practical and thoughtful than this.
PN got the most support through PAS from the rural Malays in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu. These PAS supporters are very happy with their religious way of life, “muddy” drinking water, floods, corruption, and poor living conditions.
They are not interested in development and no matter how much money is poured into their areas; they will only vote for PAS. If you are running a business, you don’t focus your energy on things that don’t give you the returns but focus on things where it matters.
Therefore, Anwar should just ignore the PAS supporter base and instead focus on where it matters. Focus on states like Penang, Selangor, Perak, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, the Federal Territories, Sabah, and Sarawak.
Allocate sufficient funds for the development of these states. Create more successful projects like the “Kulim High Tech Park” in these states and divert all investments into these states. The PAS-led states can continue with their way of life and maybe one day they will come to their senses.
P Ramlee: In other words, Khairy is asking you to hand over this government to PAS/PN but he forgot that you still have 52 months to strategise your moves since you have a supermajority. I think he is purposely trying to underestimate your intelligence.
If you revisit the state election results, there were only two clear winners, DAP and PAS. Non-Malays appeared to have voted for DAP and the Malays for PAS/PN. Personally, I think this is the aftershock effect from the last two administrations.
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s 22-month period saw the non-Malays playing major important roles in the cabinet and the civil services but it was a big contrast under PN.
Naturally, both communities would continue to hang on to their preferences for the next few elections.
This situation needs to be addressed urgently if the coalition government wants to survive the next general election. The economy, cost of living, and corruption are just secondary. Good luck Anwar, I am 100 percent behind you.
Falcon: What rubbish! This is what losers and desperadoes do. Do none of the above, stay the course, respect your base, and take the GE16 challenge.
Whatsoever happens, history will respect you for not being spooked, using different vocal cords and rhetoric in different constituencies, or being fake.
If you fail and Harapan/BN is trounced at GE16, you can walk away head held high, that you indeed stayed the course, my friend. And you were prime minister once!
Darwin Fernandez: Khairy, I think your calculations have something missing or you have forgotten because Anwar and the federal government are still strong. What happened in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, and rural Selangor has nothing to do with the federal administration.
Don’t forget, all of them need to come to the federal government for approval and financial assistance. They need Anwar and his ministers to approve it.
Just a Malaysian: The country is so polarised and fractured that an optimal coalition can never be achieved. Politicians are poisoning the minds of the rakyat until each is mutually exclusive to one another.
We will be stuck in this greyish limbo for years to come. Until and unless politicians start to think about nation-building and less about self-enrichment and power-building, we may have a chance of a good coalition running the country.
For now, every option penalises the other. For a country basing its philosophy on hatred and jealousy, nothing good or positive will come out of it. Until good values take over, we will continue to slide.
GreenBear2094: It’s good to hear what Khairy's options are before addressing Anwar’s options. Anwar is a mature politician who went through ups and down in the deepest dark valley. He was betrayed, beaten, and imprisoned.
You didn’t go through such a hideous journey but were sacked from Umno. That’s all. I’m sure that Anwar knows what he is doing. Well, Khairy, will you return to Umno after your show ‘Keluar Sekejap’ (Out for Awhile)?
Are you waiting for Deputy Prime Minister and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to step down and then only return to Umno? Or will you completely leave Umno and join the PN bandwagon since Muhyiddin said he may offer you a “good deal” or position?
Or, in the end, maybe you will be a fine DJ at Hot FM and continue with your ‘Keluar Sekejap’ show? - Mkini
