Yoursay When Those We Trusted Are On The Take Themselves

YOURSAY | ‘Such incidents are becoming more and more common.’
Alleged RM25m theft in MACC 'tip of the iceberg', claim sources
Dr Raman Letchumanan: We had the case of 'budak kita' (our boy) in the police force, and now 'penyamun anak emas' (blue-eyed boy bandit) in MACC.
These are the country’s top two enforcement agencies that are tasked with protecting law-abiding citizens from criminals, the corrupt and power abusers.
Every now and then, we hear of questionable misdeeds of these very officials involved in such unsavoury acts. When it becomes public knowledge, the most that happens is a promise of an internal inquiry and nothing is heard about it after that.
In the meantime, the whistleblowers are subjected to threats, harassment and criminal action, like in the case of the Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown.
Whatever happened to the expose of the former inspector-general of police Abdul Hamid Bador? That came from the horse’s mouth itself. Was that dismissed as false allegations?
Such incidents are becoming more and more common. But nothing is being done. This case came to light after an expose by a brave soul. I guess he or she is also being investigated.
We have the 'ketuanan' (supremacy) race, governing this country in accordance with Islam, the 'official' religion of the country. Don't the politicians, civil servants and the religious authorities feel ashamed of all these?
Why are those in authority not even condemning such acts? Their voices are at best muted, and when pressured, with the common refrain; they say let the investigation take its course, and a warning against the public from discussing or questioning the matter.
BobbyO: In the case of former Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation (MEIO) director-general Hasanah Abdul Hamid, there was RM50.4 million in hand and yet released. No questions asked and no investigations done to inquire about the source of the cash.
Like Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu's murder, no investigation was done into the motive for the killing.
When we have government agencies suspected of working hand in hand with culprits to cover a crime, then the future for this nation is bleak.
There’s nothing in this nation that had not been touched by unscrupulous leaders. They make sure everything is compromised. Education, judiciary, Treasury, Religious Department, police and even MACC. You name it and you can make sure their tentacles are all over it.
They have been warned time and again that the nation does not need outside enemies to bring the nation down; all it needs is the rot within.
The people know where this case will head. If detailed investigations are done, it will open more Pandora's boxes.
This is Malaysia Boleh, when murder can seemingly be kept under wraps, what is the disappearance of RM50.4 million of allegedly taxpayers’ ringgit?
MS: As bit by bit of the ‘heist’ gets revealed like a tantalising strip show, one thing stands out - the ear-shattering silence from the Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (ACAB), especially its "retired" Umno politician and the other luminaries who fawn around his ankles.
Significant too is the silence from the sanctimonious former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad whose machinations over the years no doubt contributed to the general state of lawlessness.
Is everyone simply waiting for the hullabaloo to fade from the memories of the mudah lupa (forgetful) because loudly demanding that all stones be turned expose the hundreds of wriggling worms would cause another political earthquake?
Steven Ong: We need more whistleblowers from inside to expose all the dirt that is covering up the rot within.
We need repentant accomplices to reveal who are the masterminds in Altantuya's murder, forced disappearances, deaths in custody, land grab, and not least, the whereabouts of M Indira Gandhi’s former husband who has taken her daughter.
Instead of going after the criminals, the authorities are going after the whistleblowers instead such as 'Edisi Siasat' (which expose this scandal in MACC). Even Sarawak Report is not spared.
The minds of many politicians are only on politics of profiteering and little about serving the people and justice.
GalaxyM: This country has become a target of universal criticisms on endless scandals due to corruption and abuse of power by both politicians and civil servants.
Mind you, many of those accused of wrongdoings are from the ethnic group that has been given power to rule and control the country since independence.
Isn’t it time for the country to adopt a system that emphasises meritocracy, integrity, justice, honesty and efficiency for politicians and civil servants in rebuilding the nation?
In line with the multiracial and religious background of the nation, race and religion should be abandoned in formulating the old and obsolete policy which has stymied the country for decades.
The Keluarga Malaysia spirit should be upheld, not just in words but must be practised by the government in every field.
Hmmm: In a properly governed country, nobody should be untouchable, not even the PM. The problem with our country is that the law enforcers are afraid of politicians when it should be the other way round.
They are afraid because they (or their heads) are also compromised. This is why our country will never move on unless there is a major overhaul of the system.
GrayWolf4924: Indeed, how can the ordinary folks depend on MACC to fight corruption when the very agency trusted to take action against such wrongdoing is on the take themselves?

Unspin: This is like the movie ‘Inception’ where there is a dream within a dream. In this case, it is a case of corruption within a corruption. The title of this MACC movie should be called ‘Incredible’. - Mkini
