Yet Another Crash Involving Singaporean Owned Speeding Car This Time Fortunately Inside The Sic

ANOTHER day, another accident involving a Singaporean-owned vehicle on Malaysian roads.
Following a slew of reported incidents, local motorists are calling for stiffer punishment for speed demons from across the Causeway. This is especially so when the accident result in fatalities.
Thankfully, the latest high-speed crash occurred in a secure environment which was the Sepang International Circuit (SIC). Ironically, the car was purportedly under the stewardship of an experienced race driver.
The clip posted on X by tech and motorsport managing editor Faiz Zainal (@thefaizzainal) shows the driver taking the car through its paces. As it builds up a head of speed, the car – for whatever reason – smacked into a barrier as it attempts to take a corner at high speed.
The car, a Mercedes AMG GT R (reportedly retailed for RM1.72 mil on-the-road without insurance in 2020) was badly damaged but it was reported that the driver and vehicle owner who was riding shotgun escaped with minor injuries.


The post which has generated 609.2K views at time of publication elicited plenty of comments. Many were left to guess what caused the driver to slam into the barrier.
A few driving “experts” gave their two sen’s worth by claiming the driver misjudged the speed and braking when taking the corner.
One even questioned the race credentials of the driver by stating that the manoeuvre was all wrong and there was an over-reliance on the vehicle’s auto transmission.

One commenter observed that it appeared the steering failed to respond when the driver attempted the corner.

However, in another clip shared by a netizen, it does appear that a case of brake failure (or just brake fade) was the cause of the accident.

Another commenter highlighted the need to carefully and properly prep a car for a day out at the track. Given that the car was likely to be pushed to the limit, all fluids and wear-and-tear parts need to be in working order.

A few commenters pointed out that this little excursion was going to cost the vehicle owner a pretty penny as accidents of this nature are not covered by insurance.

Whatever the reason, high speed shenanigans at the SIC is better than having Singaporean drivers treating public roads here as their private race tracks. The calls remain for stiffer punishments for such errant drivers, not least jail time to act as a deterrent.
Better to pay and play in an environment that is designed for that purpose. At least there will be less chance of innocent bystanders getting hurt or killed.
