Another Pickle Ball Court Closes Down Is The Sport Dying

APPARENTLY pickleball is in a pickle lately with the increasing number of pickleball courts allegedly being closed down.
The condition was further highlighted by a netizen who recently pointed out another pickleball court which was up for sale. Is it truly on a trend going downhill?
The post which garnered quite the following on X also received much feedback from netizens, and their opinions were overwhelmingly in the negative.
According to netizen @idcthonotime4u, they should have just made an indoor tennis court or a clay court.
“That is a real sport. What’s with this game of pickleball. I don’t even sweat after playing for one hour,” he said.
Several others pointed towards badminton as a better sport since it was the national sports of Malaysia anyway. Another preferred ping pong.
@izanidani91 added that pickle ball was a game for transgender although he did not provide a good reason for it.

The picture comments were not encouraging either:

Also, @hasif21691 said it was a foolish game from America. “These futsal courts were doing fine and now all of them want to change to pickleball. They deserve it,” he said.
“The white men are not good at futsal and badminton, so they created another sport that they could dominate in,” @epeyn pointed out.
Then there were other netizens who claimed pickleball was dying due to it being a hype.

Biresh Vrajlal, head of public relations in FAR Capital also did an detailed analysis on the sports and his article titled, “The Rise and “Fall” of Pickleball in Malaysia,” on Linkedin may shed some light into its decline.
According to him, pickleball might just be another passing fad, following the same cycle Malaysians saw with Flycycle, CrossFit, and other short-lived fitness crazes.
“Malaysia has a pattern when it comes to fitness trends. We see something booming overseas, local entrepreneurs bring it in, influencers hype it up, and for a brief period, it feels like the next big thing,” he said, adding that the reality sets in, interest fades, businesses struggle to stay profitable, and eventually, the trend fizzles out.
While pickleball has found success in countries with aging populations and strong recreational sports cultures, Malaysia’s fitness market is different.
He believed Malaysians love trying new things, but they rarely stick to them long-term unless they become part of mainstream culture. Pickleball is currently in the hype stage, but sustainability is another question.
“I give it 2 years, max,” said Biresh Vrajlal, ending his article on a prophetic note. — Focus Malaysia
