Yeoh S Legal Letter Not Just About Ytl Daughter Claim Razman
Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria has clarified that Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh’s legal letter against him is not just about his allegation that Yeoh was related to YTL Corporation Berhad's founder Yeoh Tiong Lay.
ADSInstead, this was just one of two contentions in her demands made through the law firm Karpal Singh & Co on Jan 28.
Razman said the letter had also accused him of defaming Yeoh by contending that her position as a cabinet minister was a risky proposition because she had described herself as “God’s ambassador” in her autobiography and wanted to spread Christianity through her office.
He claimed that certain “Pro-Hannah Yeoh” media had selectively highlighted only the first contention - despite having apologised for it - in a bid to damage his reputation.

Youth and Sports MInister Hannah Yeoh“This second part of my speech was never publicly challenged by Yeoh as defamatory. Instead, she and like-minded media have repeatedly highlighted only the first part - despite my retraction and apology.
“I believe the motive of pro-Yeoh media in focusing only on the first part of my speech is maliciously aimed at damaging my image and is being used as an easy target to divert public attention from the fact that the second part is based on her book and poses a threat to Islam’s status as the religion of the federation.
“I urge Malaysiakini and similar media to report fairly by publishing both parts of my speech for readers to evaluate,” he said in a statement today.
He was responding to Malaysiakini’s report earlier today quoting Razman’s lawyer Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz saying that he has replied to Yeoh’s demands and is prepared to face Yeoh and her lawyers in court.
Razman described the report as “biased” and did not give a complete picture of the contents of Yeoh’s letter.
According to a copy of the letter of demand dated Jan 28 and sighted by Malaysiakini, Yeoh demanded RM1 million compensation and a public apology over the Christianity propagation claim.
‘Merely stating the facts’
In a letter of response dated Feb 7 issued to Yeoh’s counsel, Razman denied defaming her and is relying on the defence of justification (ready to prove his statement in court) and fair comment.
The PAS leader contended his words were merely stating the facts based on Yeoh’s memoir “Becoming Hannah”.
ADSLast month, Razman conceded making an erroneous statement about Yeoh by claiming she is the daughter of YTL Corporation Berhad’s founder Yeoh Tiong Lay and apologised.
At the time, he also expressed regret that Malaysiakini had only highlighted the error at not other aspects of his 30-minute speech.
Yeoh also has an ongoing civil court defamation suit against Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia lecturer Kamarul Zaman Yusoff over Christian propagation allegations linked to her 2014 book.
Incidentally, she has an ongoing appeal over a failed defamation court action against former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan over a similar claim. - Mkini
