Selangor Mb I City Management To Be Questioned About Water Slide
The Selangor state government will call up the management of Shah Alam’s I-City theme park after a visitor was injured by a float that fell from a glass water slide on Wednesday.
Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the meeting would allow several questions about the safety of the slide to be answered before the theme park’s latest attraction is allowed to resume operations.
“For now, it isn’t operating, if they can fulfil the specifications set by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and we will review their newest safety aspects in their next application, then it will resume operations,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin ShariThe MBSA confirmed in a statement yesterday that nine notices were issued against the theme park, three warnings on Nov 14, 2024, and one on Jan 19.
On Friday, I-City Shah Alam announced that it has suspended operations of its SkyCity Tower glass water slide as police investigate the float incident.
The management also announced full refunds for visitors who purchased tickets to the affected ride or ticket exchanges for other attractions within the theme park.
No approval from local authority
Previously, MBSA had stated that the water slide did not receive approval to commence operations.
MBSA’s corporate and public relations division head Mohd Azhar Mohd Sharif said a notice was issued to halt construction during the building phase, but it was not complied with.
As a result, a compound was issued against I-City on Nov 14, 2024.
“This ride has not yet received approval to operate. They (I-City) need to submit a planning permission application and a temporary permit.
“I-City was fined for failing to obtain approval before operating. A notice was issued to stop during construction, but they did not comply, so MBSA issued a compound.
“The stop-work notice and compound were issued on Nov 14 last year. This ride will be required to cease operations,” he said. - Mkini
