World S Best Lion Dance Troupes To Battle For Glory At Resorts World Genting This August
Magnificent lions prancing and executing death-defying acrobatics on poles to the deafening beat of drums and clashing of cymbals in a display of synchrony and creative flair will take centre-stage when the iconic 14th Genting World Lion Dance Championship returns this August 4th till 6th!
The Genting World Lion Dance Championship is one of the most recognised and respected championships in the lion dance industry. The preliminary stage of the championship will be held on August 4th and 5th at the Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting (RWG) with a total of 36 international teams from far-flung corners of the world, vying for 11 spots in the final on August 6th.
Fans of the new extreme sport can look forward to exciting nights of mesmerizing performances. It will be a cultural feast of the senses not to be missed, as the 14th Genting World Lion Dance Championship promises to push the boundaries of competition and audience engagement to levels never before seen or experienced.
Speaking at the press conference and drawing of lots to determine the fixtures for the preliminary round of the championship, Roger Ong, RWG Assistant Vice President for Entertainment and Events said, “We are psyched to welcome once again the best lion dance troupes from all around the world to showcase their skills right here at Resorts World Genting!”
He added, “And as in previous years, we are honoured to work with the Selangor & Federal Territory Dragon & Lion Dance Association to bring this spectacular and immensely popular display of Chinese culture and world class showmanship to Genting!”
The victors of this year’s championship will take home US$15,000 cash reward, trophy and medals, whilst the first and second runners-up will receive USD$8,000 and USD$5,000, respectively together with trophy and medals. Eight consolation prize winners will each receive a trophy and cash prize of USD$1,500. In addition, the coveted East and West Lion King trophies will also be awarded to the top teams from Asia and Western nations. The Golden Drum Award, as decided by the judging panel and the People's Choice Award, as voted by the audiences, both of which offer a cash prize of USD$1,000 will also be up for grabs.
Tickets to this world premiere lion dance championship are on sale now. Guests have the option for a Day Pass at RM60.00 (PS2 – Free seating) or 3 Days Pass at RM230.00 (PS1 – Numbered seat) or RM140.00 (PS2 – Free seating). Children shorter than 95cm are eligible for the RM50 child ticket without a seat. Genting Rewards members are eligible to purchase tickets via cash, credit card or GP redemption.
