Sabah minister Masidi Manjun said a 32-year-old woman had interacted with a villager in a plantation area.KOTA KINABALU: Sabah minister Masidi Manjun says a new cluster of Covid-19 cases in Paka Kawiyan, Ranau had been set off by a woman who did not comply with a quarantine order.
Masidi, who is also the state Covid-19 spokesman, said the 32-year-old woman had tested positive through an interstate travel screening.
She had interacted with a villager in a rubber plantation area while trying to get internet access.
“Based on a series of close contact screenings from July 29 to Aug 14, there was an increase in the number of cases among close contacts and social contacts of the index case.
”Of the 132 people screened, the cluster recorded 41 positive cases including 13 new cases today, ” he said in a Covid-19 daily statement for the state.
He added that the other two new clusters, namely the Segama Batu Satu Cluster in Lahad Datu and the Tangkuyan Cluster in Kinabatangan, were workplace and community clusters.
Segama Batu Satu Cluster is a workplace cluster involving a tyre manufacturing company with an index case of a 40-year-old foreign man who tested positive in a screening on Aug 12.
“The cause of the infection is still under investigation but the risk of infection was found to be high due to the crowded condition of the shared house and social activities among the workers every evening.
“Out of the 39 contacts screened, 18 individuals were tested positive, including 11 new cases today,” he said.
The Tangkuyan Cluster involved an index case of a female clerk in an oil palm plantation in Beluran. She was confirmed positive as a result of screening at work on Aug 9.
“The investigation found that she had attended the funeral of family members in Kampung Tangkuyan, Kuamut. A total of 128 family, social and dependent contacts were later found to be positive for Covid-19.
Masidi said a total of 1,665 new cases were recorded today with three deaths recorded. - FMT
