Woman Caught Refuelling Singapore Registered Car With Ron95 Under Investigation
The Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) is investigating an incident involving a woman driving a Singapore-registered car, allegedly refuelling with subsidised RON95 petrol, following a viral video. - NSTP/ASYRAF HAMZAHPONTIAN: The Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) is investigating an incident involving a woman driving a Singapore-registered car, allegedly refuelling with subsidised RON95 petrol, following a viral video.
Johor KPDN director Lilis Saslinda Purnomo said that the investigation revealed the incident occurred at a petrol station in Taman Pelangi on Jan 21.
"Initial investigations found that the vehicle owner used a card for payment but was stopped by the petrol station attendant.
"We have evidence showing that the woman managed to refuel less than one litre, worth about RM1, before being stopped. She then refueled with RON97, which is designated for foreign-registered vehicles in Malaysia," she said during a press conference at Pekan Nanas, today.
She said that closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed the woman refuelling at the rear pump, but was found out by the staff.
When asked about proposals for foreign-registered vehicles to use cash instead of credit or debit cards to avoid such incidents, she said there was no directive yet.
"At the moment, there is no directive requiring foreign-registered vehicles to pay in cash. The primary responsibility lies with petrol station owners.
"They must take immediate action to ensure no foreign-registered vehicles refuel with RON95, including assigning staff to prevent such incidents, especially during the festive season," she said.
She added that Johor KPDN has deployed 200 enforcement officers to monitor and ensure all petrol stations and premises comply with the relevant laws, especially with the anticipated increase in visitors from Singapore during Chinese New Year.
The incident gained attention after a video circulated on social media, showing a woman attempting to refuel her Singapore-registered vehicle with RON95 petrol at a station in Johor Baru.
The video sparked various reactions from TikTok users, with some sharing similar tactics. - NST
