With Utusan Closed Umno Turns To Social Media
UMNO AGM | The closure of Umno's mouthpiece Utusan Malaysia appeared to be a none issue for Umno, especially when it comes to media coverage of its ongoing general assembly
Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki (below) said the party has moved away from relying on the mainstream media in promoting its agenda in the past year
"We have changed our approach and are no longer depending on the mainstream media
"The youth nowadays no longer depend on mainstream media but have turned to social media for information
"We utilised and have benefitted from social media. That's why we do Facebook live streaming, and every time we do live streaming, we can reach 200,000 to 300,000 (people)," he told reporters after the conclusion of the Umno Youth general assembly today
He was asked the way forward for Umno following the closure of its mouthpiece Utusan Malaysia in October
When asked if he felt the media had reported on Umno fairly, he said, "It is up to them
"That's why I said in an open world today, they just report what they are interested in and the news that is valuable to them
"However, we hope for fair and balanced reporting."Earlier today, Umno had launched its official website, while Wanita Umno conducted an event yesterday regarding the impact of social media
Utusan Malaysia traces its roots to 1939 when it was first published as Utusan Melayu in Jawi. The romanised version Utusan Malaysia started publication on Sept 1, 1967.
