With Permission Pss Holders Allowed Into The Peninsula For 1 Month

KIMANIS POLLS | Sabah Temporary Pass (PSS) holders will be able to spend a maximum of one month in peninsular Malaysia, provided they obtain the necessary permission from the Immigration Department

“Those holding a PSS card are allowed to enter the peninsula for a period of one month if they get permission,” he said when met at a Chinese New Year event in Kimanis this afternoon
“(Permission can be considered) based on certain reasons and issues, for example, if someone needs medication in the peninsula

“When all holders of the IMM13, Burung-Burung cards and census certificates have their documents converted to the PSS, they will be allowed to go to the peninsula with the approval of Sabah’s Immigration Department Director,” Azis explained
Yesterday, Umno Supreme Council member Abdul Rahman Dahlan had opposed the implementation of the PSS and questioned why holders were restricted from travelling to peninsular Malaysia
Responding to Rahman today, Azis questioned the former minister if he would agree if undocumented migrants from peninsular Malaysia were instead allowed into Sabah
Both Azis and Rahman are native to Sabah
A focal point of the by-election, the PSS is a new document issued by the Immigration Department to streamline the management of irregular migrants in Sabah
Such migrants presently have one of three types of documentation - the IMM13, Burung-burung cards or census certificates
Holders of the IMM13 are mainly Filipino refugees who fled to Sabah in the 1970s when separatist violence in the Mindanao region escalated during the Marcos regime
Economic migrants, on the other hand, were given Burung-Burung cards in the 1980s. Others were given Federal Special Task Force census certificates in the 1990s
The IMM13 is issued by the Immigration Department while Burung-Burung cards are issued by the Chief Minister's Department. Census certificates are issued by the National Security Council

Speaking to those present, Shafie said Sabahans would benefit more from job opportunities than BN-era cash handouts like the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M)
“Sabahans do not need BR1M. BN has come here to say that they would give RM2,000 in BR1M if they came back to power
“What we need is jobs,” he said
Asked afterwards if he was concerned about an anti-PSS rally held in Pekan Membakut earlier today, Shafie opined that the NGO behind it did not represent the views of the majority
He added that the campaign period ought to be used for campaigning and not for such protests
This morning’s rally had been organised by Solidariti Rakyat Sabah (Sorak) and the Sabah People’s Education Improvement Organisation (Pipa)
Former Kimanis MP and ex-minister Anifah Aman was the main speaker at the protest
Warisan is fielding former Bongawan assemblyperson Karim Bujang against BN’s Mohamad Alamin, the Kimanis Umno division chief in this Saturday’s by-election. - Mkini
