With Chinese Support Below 5pct Gerakan Urges Mca Members To Vote Pn
KKB BY-ELECTION | With the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election set for tomorrow, Gerakan president Dominic Lau admitted that Chinese support for Perikatan Nasional stands below 5 percent.
Therefore, he called on MCA members and four other groups of Chinese voters to cast their votes for PN.
At a press conference held today in the constituency, Lau said that according to Gerakan’s internal polls, Chinese support for PN is below 5 percent in Kuala Kubu Baharu.
“From the feedback we received over the past two weeks, particularly from the Chinese community... our calculations and polls show that the Chinese support rate for PN won’t exceed 5 percent,” Lau said.
Lau (above, centre) then claimed that Chinese voters dissatisfied with the Pakatan Harapan government intended to abstain from voting.
The Gerakan chief, however, urged them to give PN their protest votes instead.
“You must come out and vote and vote for PN. Only by letting PN win can we effectively remind and teach a lesson to DAP, Harapan, and the current state and federal governments,” he said.
Lau specifically targeted five groups of Chinese voters:
Those dissatisfied with rising prices and the depreciation of the ringgit;
Poor Chinese in the B40 category;
Those who support Teoh Beng Hock’s family;
MCA members dissatisfied with DAP;
DAP members dissatisfied with the central committee for not nominating locals.
Lau also needled MCA’s grievances towards DAP.
“We’ve heard some voices saying that DAP and its secretary-general Anthony Loke have insulted them (MCA members)... So, I also urge MCA members to come out and vote and cast their votes for PN,” he said, adding that their votes are anonymous.
He also denied that Gerakan only plays a decorative role in PN.
Lau drew a comparison with DAP, which he said is the largest party in Harapan with 40 parliamentary seats but still failed to fulfil its election promises such as recognising the United Examination Certificate (UEC), closing Lynas, and repealing the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.
“If we’re a decorative piece, then DAP is just an ornament in Harapan.
“You (DAP) have 40 parliamentary seats; you’re not like Gerakan, which only has one state assemblyperson. You know? (But) Now that you have 40 parliamentary seats and if you can’t achieve this, then you’re just an ornament.” - Mkini
