Why Would I Destroy My Father S Felda Legacy Najib
JOHOR POLLS | Former premier Najib Abdul Razak refutes the accusation that he had destroyed Felda during his time leading the government and said that he would not do such a thing to his father's legacy.
Speaking to reporters in Muar earlier today, Najib claimed that Felda settlers even had a better life during his leadership.
"It is unfair to accuse me of having destroyed Felda.
"The Felda people themselves know that I inherited Felda from Tun Razak, so how come I could destroy my father's Felda legacy?
"And when I was in charge, Felda was more prosperous, their welfare was taken care of even much better," he said on the side of his campaign activity for MCA Bentayan candidate Gan Qi Ru in Muar.
Najib, who is Pekan MP, was responding to accusations thrown by former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin who claimed that Najib had caused many losses to Felda when Najib was in power.
During Najib’s era from 2009 to 2018, the management of Felda was tainted by a string of abuses.
His administration spearheaded the move to publicly list Felda assets through the creation of Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad (FGV), which raised a war chest of funds that was subsequently used to splurge on questionable hotel purchases, commercial development projects and land acquisitions.
Equally controversial was Felda’s overpriced purchase of a stake in Eagle High Plantations, a firm linked to Indonesian tycoon Peter Sondakh who is reportedly a close friend of Najib’s.
The mismanagements sent FGV’s share price tanking, from more than RM5 a share in mid-2012 to close at RM1.85 as of Monday. - Mkini
