Preacher Syakir Nasoha is alleged to have made inflammatory remarks against other religions.PETALING JAYA: It has been three days since police reports were lodged against preacher Syakir Nasoha, who had allegedly made inflammatory remarks against other religions, but there has been no update on the case and a human rights NGO wants to know why.
Recently, a one-minute TikTok video of Syakir saying that “at the end of time, non-believers would be scrambling together to kill Muslims” made the rounds on social media and WhatsApp.
In the video, he also claimed that Buddhists and Hindus were behind the killings of Muslims in Thailand and India.
Thousands of police reports were lodged across the country against the preacher for his speech in the video.
S Shashi Kumar.In a statement today, Global Human Rights Federation president S Shashi Kumar demanded an update from police.
“It’s been 72 hours since the first report was made, and until now there’s been no update from the police.”
Meanwhile, Syakir released a video yesterday claiming that his speech which went viral was meant for Muslims only and had been taken out of context and misunderstood.
He explained that the viral video posted online containing parts of his speech was taken out of context and did not show his full remarks.
Commenting on his explanation, Shashi said Syakir was “twisting and manipulating his way out of trouble”.
He claimed this was not an isolated case and the preacher had made inflammatory remarks before.
He claimed that Syakir’s hateful messages were repeated in a Facebook live session on Oct 1.
“The video content has been removed and the page has been deleted,” Shashi said, adding that his NGO managed to save the 55-minute, 40-second video.
“I will lodge another police report and submit the evidence.”
He stressed that the attacks against other religions must be stopped.
“Article 8 of the Federal Constitution guarantees equality before the law and equal protection of the law for all persons. Thus, Syakir cannot be allowed to have any advantage for his unlawful acts by claiming to be an Islamic preacher. He has also committed unlawful acts under various laws of Malaysia.”- FMT
