Viralling Of Lewd Messages Videos Has Disrupted Probe Into Preacher Say Police

CID director Abd Jalil Hassan has urged those with information regarding the preacher’s alleged sexual harassment case to inform the police instead of spreading them on social media.GOMBAK: Explicit videos and lewd messages allegedly involving popular preacher Ebit Lew have gone viral on the Telegram application and have disrupted ongoing investigations, say police.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Abd Jalil Hassan said police had opened an investigation paper previously against the celebrity preacher and philanthropist to assist with claims of sexual harassment.
“However, the messages and videos allegedly involving the preacher that are viralling now have disrupted the ongoing investigation,” he told a press conference at the Gombak district police headquarters today.
In view of this, Jalil urged those with information regarding the preacher’s alleged sexual harassment case to inform the police instead of spreading them on social media.
He said police had opened an investigation paper on the latest messages and videos on the Telegram application, saying the probe was under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult to provoke a breach of peace, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities.
Ebit had earlier said the allegations against him were slanderous and cruel. He said he was leaving it to the police to fully investigate the matter.
Jalil advised the public to be prudent on social media and not use this platform to cause public panic or threaten national harmony.

The cosmetics company owner fled Malaysia this year. Thai police confirmed that she was arrested this month and was found guilty by a court for illegal entry and subsequently released on bail. She is reported to be seeking asylum in Australia.
On another matter, Jalil said police have also busted an armed robbery gang known as Gang Amir@Kecik who hit several jewellery stores in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur since May this year.
He said police carried out 13 raids in the Klang Valley under Op Dulang from Sept 13 to 20, during which they arrested 23 Malaysians, including two women, all aged between 20 and 30.
However, he said two remaining members of the parang and axe-wielding gang still remain at large.
From investigations, he said it was estimated that jewellery worth a total of RM879,000 had been taken by the gang.
Police have so far recovered jewellery worth RM393,348 believed to have been stolen from four jewellery stores in Setapak, Seri Kembangan, Kepong and Gombak.
They also seized one parang, three motorcycles, three helmets and 15 mobile phones, among others.
The case is being investigated under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code. - FMT
