What Would The Satan Do
I would recommend for the non-Muslims to read this as well. Save this post for the references to some verses from the Quran that are found here. It may come in handy and useful for you the non-Muslims as well.
Shaytan is Arabic for the Latin 'satan'. Also in Hebrew. The Hebrew term śāṭān (Hebrew: שָׂטָן) is a generic noun meaning "accuser" or "adversary", and is derived from a verb meaning primarily "to obstruct, oppose".
By the Latin and Hebrew etymology 'Satan' is the great opposer, the obstructor. Satan is basically the devil in the English language. El Diablo in Spanish. Yes you can debate that as well but this should suffice.
Here are five verses from the Quran (in the English and Malay translation only).
Surah 7:205 Remember your Lord within yourselves, humbly and privately - without shouting out loud - in the mornings and evenings and do not be of the heedless ones.
So what would or what could the sAtan say to this verse above? Will the satan agree to be humble and to not shout out loud? Or will the satan tell you to shout as loudly as you can? Satan being the opposer, the obstructor.
Here is another verse:
Surah 17:110 Say, “Call upon Allah or call upon the Most Compassionate—whichever you call, He has the Most Beautiful Names.” Do not be too loud with your salat or silent but seek a way between.
Again what would or what could the satan say to this verse above? Will the satan agree to be not too loud with your salat or will the satan tell you to shout out as loudly as you can? Satan being the opposer, the obstructor.
Here is another verse:
Surah 20:2 We have not revealed the Quran to you to cause you distress
Surah 20:2 Kami tidak menurunkan Al-Quran kepadamu supaya engkau menanggung kesusahan.
So will the satan agree that the Quran has not been revealed to cause distress and hardship? Or will the satan say, 'The Quran has indeed been revealed to cause hardship". What do you think the satan will say?
Here is another verse:
Surah 22:78 Strive for ˹the cause of˺ Allah in the way He deserves, for it is He Who has chosen you, and laid upon you no hardship in the deen—the way of your father Abraham. ˹It is He Who named you ‘Muslims’ in the earlier Scriptures and in this Quran, so that the Messenger may be a witness over you, and that you may be witnesses over humanity. So establish prayer, give to zakat and hold fast to Allah. He alone is your Guardian. What an excellent Guardian, and what an excellent Helper!
Dia lah Pelindung kamu. Dia lah sahaja sebaik-baik Pelindung dan sebaik-baik Pemberi pertolongan.
Again will the satan agree that there should be 'no hardship upon you in the deen' or will the satan oppose the idea and insist that "yes, yes there must be hardship upon you in the deen? Remember satan is the opposer. If Allah says white, the satan will say black.
Here is another verse, another one of my favourites:
Surah 31:19 Be moderate in your pace. And lower your voice, for the ugliest of all voices is certainly the braying of donkeys.”
Surah 31:19 "Dan sederhanakanlah langkahmu semasa berjalan, juga rendahkanlah suaramu, sesungguhnya seburuk-buruk suara ialah suara keldai".
This is the fantastic advise from Nabi Luqman to his son about maintaining good etiquette and not to show pride and arrogance on the earth. The previous verse 31:18 says:
Surah 31:18 Do not scornfully turn your face away from people. Do not walk around puffed-up with pride; God does not love arrogant and boastful people.
So what will satan say to these verses in the Quran? Will satan say 'Yes walk around puffed up with pride. Be as arrogant and boastful as you can. Do not lower your voice. Shout out as loudly as you can. The most beautiful voice is indeed the voice of the donkey'.
Remember satan is the opposer. Satan will oppose whatever is written in the Quran.
The views expressed are those of the writer and do not necessarily reflect those of MMKtT.
