TERENGGANU Mufti Datuk Mohamad Sabri Haron stated that Islam forbids Muslims from reciting the “Qunut Nazilah” prayer against fellow Muslims, as it calls for their destruction.
(Focus Malaysia) – “Islam prohibits the recitation of the Qunut Nazilah prayer for fellow Muslims, regardless of political differences or differing views on matters,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian today.
He cited the Prophet Muhammad and Imam Al-Ghazali to support his position, saying, “Furthermore, Imam Al-Ghazali also criticised any prayers for destruction directed at fellow Muslims.”
This follows Perikatan Nasional (PN) MPs reciting the prayer in Dewan Rakyat, allegedly to protest the suspension of Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal and show solidarity with Palestinians.
The Qunut Nazilah is a special prayer said by the Prophet of Islam during certain battles. It was meant to ask for the destruction of enemies who were not Muslims.
Muslims are not allowed to say such prayers against Muslims, and when the PAS MPs recited the prayer in Parliament, they may have committed an act that is forbidden in Islam.
A social media video implied it was directed at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, leading Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to say the move by the Opposition MPs was a misuse of religion while Perlis Mufti Datuk Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin criticised public prayer for political purposes.
Netizens are also criticising the opposition for their act.
An X user uploaded a poster in which three top Islamic figures in Malaysia are quoted as saying the prayer can’t be used on Muslims.
 
Another user said they were certain the prayer said by the opposition would be like karma, that is, it would turn against them.
 
 
A non-Muslim user on X sarcastically said it is great to become Muslim under the PAS since the party will erase all his sins. – July 21, 2024
