PETALING JAYA: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has dubbed Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman's criticism of the government's decision to eliminate the Critical Service Incentive Allowance as "acting"
"Isn't Syed Saddiq a full minister who attends the Cabinet meeting weekly. Why not bring his 'loud voice' during the meetings. Is it proper to shout outside but be silent during Cabinet meetings
"Doesn't he understand the principles of collective responsibility that is practised by the Cabinet. If any minister disagrees with the PM, there is only one way out which is to resign. That is the Westminster system practised in Malaysia," he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Dec 26)
Dr Wee also pointed out that the Public Service Department (PSD) was under the Prime Minister's Department and that as a member of the Cabinet, Syed Saddiq was able to bring up the issue during the Cabinet meeting for a collective decision
"Has Syed Saddiq done so?" he questioned
Dr Wee also urged the Pakatan Harapan government to put the people first and stop with "theatrics"
"The opposition mentality is no longer practical after 19 months of being the government," he said
In a Dec 20 circular, the PSD announced that the government will no longer give Critical Service Incentive Allowance to 33 professions who will be joining the civil service next year
These jobs include medical officers, pharmacists, dentists, nurses, engineers, air traffic controllers, architects, marine architects, legal officers, agricultural officers, vocational training officers, marine officers, research officers, among others
In the circular, the PSD noted that no current staff, permanent or temporary ones will be affected by the move
Only new appointments on Jan 1 and onwards next year will be affected
It added that existing contractual staff will also continue receiving their allowance as long as their contracts are renewed without any disruption in their service in between
