Shamsulkahar Deli, the Jempol MP, said there would be no repeat of the Sheraton Move as BN would not undermine a government it was part of.
The Sheraton Move refers to the political manoeuvre in 2020 that saw some MPs from Bersatu and PKR joining forces with those from BN and PAS. It led to the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.
Shamsulkahar said BN acknowledged that no single party or bloc won the general election and that this was why the Yang di-Pertuan Agong called for a unity government.
“We will not be involved in any manoeuvre,” he told FMT. “We abide by the King’s decree. We do not want more politicking. Our recent experience of having three prime ministers in four years is enough.”
He said the government must be allowed to focus on resolving issues affecting the economy and public wellbeing.
On Wednesday, Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan said Anwar’s government was unstable and could be threatened at any time by BN.
He likened the present government to that of the Perikatan Nasional government under Muhyiddin Yassin, which had to cede to a government made up of PN and BN ministers led by Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Another MP from BN, Kota Tinggi’s Khaled Nordin, said Wan Saiful’s remarks did not surprise him.
“He’s in the opposition; so he’ll make such remarks,” he said.
Anwar leads a unity government composed of PH, BN, Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah with support from MPs from Muda, Warisan, Parti Bangsa Malaysia and independents. - FMT
