Anwar Won T Be Like Najib Says Rafizi On Pm Holding Finance Portfolio
Rafizi Ramli quips that there is no more money left in the government to steal. (Bernama pic)KULIM: PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli is confident that Anwar Ibrahim will not become a finance minister like former prime minister Najib Razak after he took over the finance portfolio.
Rafizi said he is confident the prime minister will not be like Najib as he has a different character and upbringing.
“Secondly, I don’t think any minister can steal money like before because there is no money (left), it has been stolen,” he said at a ceramah here in support of Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for the Padang Serai election, Sofee Razak, last night.
“That is why I am worried about (losing) my hair. After this, I might have to wear a kopiah to cover (my bald head) because there is no money.
“The responsibility of the finance minister and the economic affairs minister like myself is to think about how to grow the economy so that we have enough money to help the rakyat.”
Rafizi also called for government agencies with poor and questionable records to be reviewed, and for individuals who are honest, trustworthy and fearless to be appointed to lead them.
He also said it is important that the judiciary, the public prosecutor and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission carry out their roles based on the law and not follow what the ministers say.
Anwar has come under fire from many quarters for appointing himself as the finance minister, which goes against the PH manifesto in the 14th general election, which said that a prime minister should not hold the finance minister’s post following the 1MDB scandal that happened when Najib held both positions.
Yesterday, after clocking in at his ministry in Putrajaya, Rafizi told a press conference that “extraordinary circumstances” had led Anwar to take over as the finance minister.
He said Anwar took on the role to prevent conflict among the parties that form the unity government.
He said every component party in the unity government wanted the finance minister’s post, “so it makes sense for now for the prime minister to take on the role to avoid conflict”. - FMT
