Sabah PKR chairman Mustapha Sakmud said he understood GRS’s wish to head the state government.
“We can discuss this. What is important is that we do not create friction and end up clashing.
“There is still room for us to cooperate with GRS,” Berita Harian reported him as saying in Kota Kinabalu today.
Mustapha said as PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, who is prime minister, is expected at a Madani Rakyat event in Tawau tomorrow, he hopes discussions can be held with GRS chairman and chief minister Hajiji Noor.
Yesterday, Hajiji said GRS is ready to contest in the Sabah elections on its own, should Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional join forces for the elections.
He said local parties had a better understanding of the realities, cultures and needs of Sabahans and GRS had consistently held that local parties should be the backbone and head of the state government, without sidelining the role of national parties.
Mustapha, who is also Sepanggar MP, said he will abide by a GRS decision to move solo should it come to pass. “This is politics. If they want to move solo, it is up to them, and we are prepared for the possibility.
“It will then be up to Sabahans to decide,” he said. - FMT
