Water Supply To Be Restored In Four Days Air Selangor
Water supply in several areas in the Klang Valley which has been disrupted since yesterday will be restored within four days, Air Selangor said today
Its chief executive officer Suhaimi Kamaralzaman (above) said the four water treatment plants can only resume operations when the pollution reading reaches zero threshold odour number (TON)
He said currently, the pollution reading at the plants is at level 1 compared to 3 TON yesterday
"The affected water treatment plants will only resume operations if the pollution reading of zero TON is recorded for three consecutive times. Consumers will start receiving water supply at least within four days," he told a press conference
Air Selangor viewed the pollution issue seriously as it had caused the treatment plants to stop operations for more than 30 hours and the recovery process might take longer
He said the water supply will be restored to affected consumers in stages depending on the geographical location of their premises
According to him, the unexpected water disruption, due to pollution at the raw water source, has affected 1.2 million consumers in 1,292 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat
As such, water tanks have been mobilised to distribute water to affected users and 24-hour local service centres have also been activated until the water supply is fully restored, he said. Earlier, Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari in a statement said the factory that allegedly caused odour pollution in four Sungai Selangor water treatment plants, which had its operation suspended yesterday, has been sealed and compounded
Yesterday, the Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plant was shut down at 7.15am while operations at the Sungai Selangor Phase 1, 2, 3 Water Treatment Plants were suspended at 9am due to odour pollution
