Warisan Youth Slams Grs Rep Over Unserious Attitude On Road Repair

Warisan Youth expressed disappointment at Gabungan Rakyat Sabah's (GRS) Tanjung Kapor assemblyperson Ben Chong Chen Bin for his "unserious" handling of damage to a main road.
In a statement, Warisan Youth chief Terence Au said being part of the government, Chong should have more resources to repair the main road from Kudat to Kota Kinabalu.
"As an assemblyperson from the government, the power and access to the authorities are wider.
"Therefore, it is very disappointing when efforts are limited to issuing statements without firm action on the ground," Au said.
On Monday (Jan 20), Chong said the road falls under the responsibilities of the federal government, which has already appointed a concession company to maintain and fix it.
Terence AuHe said in a statement that he had issued instructions for the company to prioritise the road's maintenance and repair works but this was delayed due to recent uncertain weather and heavy rains.
He also said he sent the government a suggestion to end contracts with any companies that have not fulfilled their duties, adding that he will send an official letter to Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi seeking a long-term solution to the matter.
Defection to GRS
In response, Au asked why Chong was sending a letter to the minister when the roads were being patched.
He urged Chong to provide a timeframe for the road repair so that people have a clear idea of what is happening.
"The damage to this main road not only inconveniences users but also threatens their safety.
"Potholes and damage to roads can cause serious accidents and vehicle damage," Au said.
Au further took a jab at Chong by alluding to the latter's defection to GRS.
"When jumping parties occur to be with the government (GRS), it should be used to fight for the interests of the people, not just to speak out but fail to carry out responsibilities effectively," Au said.
Chong left Warisan in February last year to join the ruling coalition GRS. - Mkini
