Wan Saiful Claims 2 Mps Acting As Agents Seeking Support For Pm
PARLIAMENT | The Dewan Rakyat was urged to take action against Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (BN-Gua Musang) and Zulkafperi Hanapi (BN-Tanjong Karang) over allegations they had played roles as "agents of persuasions” to get opposition MPs to support Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat, Wan Saiful Wan Jan (PN-Tasek Gelugor) claimed the duo had attempted to influence his actions through inducements and threats.
"I would like to propose to the speaker that the Dewan Rakyat make a resolution for the Special Select Committee to take action based on rule 80 (A) read together with Section 9 of the Parliamentary Council (Privileges and Powers) Act 1952 (Act 347) to identify, discuss and decide on punishments for some individuals who made offers to influence my behaviour in the Dewan Rakyat," he said.
"This is an effort to disrupt, a misguided offer and a threat to influence my conduct as a member of Parliament.
"Based on the details above, there has been an offence of insulting the Dewan Rakyat under Section 9 (d) and Section 9 (e) of the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Act," Wan Saiful (above) added.
Elaborating on the claims, Wan Saiful said Azizi, together with two individuals known as “Datuk Azman and Hasnan” had met him on Jan 17, in an effort to convince him to express support for Anwar.
Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim"Among the offers made are the parliamentary allocation, a RM2 million project allocation, payment for my wife's medical costs and legal fees to face charges in court," he alleged.
On another occasion, Wan Saiful claimed that Zulkafperi, together with another individual known as “Datuk Rahim”, had met him on Jan 26.
"The Tanjung Karang MP sent me a proposal that contains a speech they (BN) wanted me to deliver in Parliament on Feb 28 when I debate the Yang di Pertuan Agong's address.
“It was an effort to influence my behaviour," the Bersatu leader alleged.
For the record, on Feb 28, Wan Saiful claimed that he was offered a reward to support the prime minister.
Tanjong Karang MP Zulkafperi HanapiSubsequently, the MACC asked him to lodge a report at its headquarters. The anti-graft agency also summoned him to have his statement recorded.
However, Wan Saiful has so far evaded the MACC's call, citing parliamentary immunity in the Dewan Rakyat.
‘Just bumped into him’
Meanwhile, Azizi denied that he had attempted to lure Wan Saiful into supporting the Anwar-led administration.
Labelling Wan Saiful's remarks as "slanderous", Free Malaysia Today reported Azizi as saying that he merely bumped into the Bersatu supreme council member, who then had asked about the privileges that the latter received after pledging allegiance towards the coalition government.
"I never asked to meet him (Wan Saiful) to secure his support for the prime minister. I merely bumped into him at a cafe in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
"He then asked me about the privileges I had obtained since giving the prime minister my support. I replied that I had only received the same allocations as government MPs (for my constituency)," Azizi stated. - Mkini
