Wan Fayhsal Repeats Govt Crueller Than Israel Jibe
Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has repeated his party’s claim that the government is “crueller than Israel” with regard to freedom of the press.
Taking to X, the Machang MP said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) banned and removed his “simple explanation video” from Instagram and TikTok, which touched on the government’s reported plans to cut down on fuel subsidy as well as the impact on prices of goods.
“Is that slander? Does it breach any law?
“I was just commenting on Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli’s stand after he previously announced that fuel subsidy will be cut soon,” he said.
Wan Fayhsal (above) also attached a screenshot from his Instagram account, informing restricted access to his video based on a legal request by MCMC over alleged violations of local law.
According to the notice, Instagram had complied with MCMC’s request after conducting a legal and human rights assessment, and viewers outside Malaysia could still see it.
“Turns out the government of the day is ruling with an iron fist and even more cruel than Israel in terms of press freedom.
“Everything that the government does not like will be blocked, but cyber troopers slandering PN are being allowed to act freely on social media,” he claimed.
On Saturday, Bersatu leader Wan Saiful Wan Jan blamed Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil for Malaysia’s decline in the World Press Freedom Index - a drop of 34 places to rank 107 from 180 countries - and worse than Israel, ranked 101.
In response, Fahmi insisted that, unlike Israel, Malaysia does not order any killings or shut down any news organisation. - Mkini
