Vigneswaran said he is waiting for an official letter from Zahid requesting a written explanation from MIC on the matter.
“We will send in a written explanation as soon as we receive it,” Astro Awani reported him as saying.
Yesterday, MIC deputy youth chief K Kesavan attended the Bersatu Youth wing’s annual meeting. MIC deputy president M Saravanan confirmed with FMT that the party was invited to attend and that Kesavan was their representative.
Earlier today, Zahid said: “This is inappropriate. No representative of a BN component party should attend a conference organised by a party outside the government coalition, whether in a personal or official capacity.”
He said MIC must submit a written explanation to BN and it was up to the MIC leadership to take any disciplinary action under party rules.
Vigneswaran said the party is not discussing any disciplinary action against Kesavan at the moment.
Leaders of MIC and MCA, who have been allies of Umno since Merdeka days, have faced pressure from members to reconsider their future in BN, over their lack of influence in national affairs.
Zahid recently said no discussions have been held with MCA and MIC’s top leaders about their possible exit from the coalition.
However, Perikatan Nasional secretary-general Azmin Ali has said the coalition has held informal discussions with MIC and MCA. - FMT
