Ustazah Asma Denies Abandoning Mcd S Boycott Claims Fake Online Posts Intends To Smear Her Repute
CELEBRITY Muslim preacher Ustazah Asma’ Harun has denied changing her tact over a call to boycott fast food giant McDonald’s.
This is after news of her attending an event that featured McDonald’s as a sponsor has courted backlash with many pro-Madani keyboard warriors attacking the PAS-affiliated preacher for flip-flopping on the issue.
The Golden Arches was among the many brands targeted at the height of the Israel-Hamas conflict as it was perceived to be pro-Zionist.
Ustazah Asma’ had vehemently called on the public to refrain from patronising McDonald’s restaurants as a show of solidarity with the suffering Palestinians
However, the preacher had in an official statement this morning (March 25) described the accusations as “blatant slander and made with bad intentions in addition to explaining that the circulated photos had been edited.
Earlier, allegations went viral on social media that the preacher was supporting and promoting McDonald’s through a photo of her holding the brand’s mascot – Ronald McDonald’s.
“I have never issued any statement, either verbally or in writing as alleged. All the writings in the post are fabricated and a fraud,” the 41-year-old Asma’ who is also an entrepreneur claimed.
Explaining her presence at a programme at the Al-Ikhlas Mosque in Section 13 Shah Alam, Ustazah Asma’ said she received an invitation from the Markaz Al Qarahdaghi to deliver a lecture as is often the case with invitations received from various other mosques during the fasting month.
The allegations had been spreading like wildfire on social media with even former education minister Dr Maszlee Malik (@mazslee) seeking clarification on X.
That the post by the former one-term Simpang Renggam MP had garnered 1.3M views at the time of publication is enough to underline how widespread the (mis)information had spread.
“However, what I feel sorry for are those who are also Muslims but are caught up in uttering obscene words,” Ustazah Asma’ declared.
Meanwhile, the preacher also expressed her hope that all acts of worship and righteous practices throughout Ramadan would be accepted by Allah Almighty.
Recall that the preacher had in February 2024 been called out for being a failed entrepreneur by her detractors when her Momen Kafe went belly up. Now, she is being called a religious charlatan for misleading the faithful.
