Urimai Sec Gen Takes A Jibe At Ph Ruled Penang For Non Availability Of Tourism Leaflets In Bm Tamil
THE United Rights of Malaysian Party’s (Urimai) secretary-general Satees Muniandy has questioned why the “Experience Penang: The Diversity of Asia” promotional pamphlets are not made available in the national language or even in Tamil to reflect Malaysia’s diversity.
This coincidentally comes at the back of a teaser video for the 16th George Town Festival 2024 which was recently slammed for “memoricide” after having omitted Penang’s Malay-Muslim heritage that has characterised Penang’s history for centuries.
Recall that the 97-year-olf Penang Malay Association (PEMENANG), the nation’s oldest Malay organisation, has hit out at the promotional video that only displayed Chinese and Indian cultural performances but left out Malay elements.
Failure of the clip entitled “Here and Now” which has since been removed from the official GTF portal to capture the multi-ethnic nature of Penang is indeed a slap in the face of the PH-led Madani government.

“We stopped by to fill up our tank at a petrol station along the PLUS Expressway (apparently at the Shell station in the Alor Pongsu Rest & Recreational stop) when we bumped into the Penang promotional brochures in two languages only (Mandarin and English),” revealed the former DAP state assemblyman for Bagan Dalam in Penang.
“You want to promote Seberang Perai to PLUS Expressway users but the brochures are not available in Bahasa Malaysia nor Tamil … Penang has always bragged as the melting pot of Asia … Indeed, an excellent performance by the state tourism EXCO (state tourism and creative economy committee chairman Wong Hon Wai).”
Apparently, Satees’ TikTok video was picked up by opposition-slant social media influencer Solisidtor (@Solisidtor) which led to mixed responses towards the DAP-led Penang state government depending on which political divide one belongs to.
