Uproar Over Lau S Pulai Tweet Shortly After Salahuddin Burial
Gerakan president Dominic Lau was on the receiving end of brickbats after he allegedly toyed with the idea of contesting for the Pulai parliamentary seat on Twitter.
The tweet - which has since been deleted - was posted barely an hour after the Pulai constituency’s incumbent, the late Salahuddin Ayub, was laid to rest.
“Is it OK if I contest in the Pulai by-election?” he tweeted at 12.37pm today, according to a screenshot.
Among those who caught the tweet before it was deleted was Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan.
“The deceased was just laid to rest, and the Gerakan president has tweeted like this,” the DAP lawmaker said.
After Lau (above) deleted the tweet, Syahredzan posted a screenshot of it while commenting: “You’re not getting away.”
Former Pulai MP the late Salahuddin AyubWhen contacted, Lau sent Malaysiakini an image declaring the tweet as “fake”.
“Yes, I’ve never written it at all. This person is using a fake account,” he said.
He later told Malaysiakini the account was his but had been “hacked”.
He said the hacker used the account to post the tweet and later deleted it, adding that he would make a police report on the incident in the next few days.
Salahuddin was a two-term Pulai MP.
In the last general election, Gerakan represented Perikatan Nasional in a three-cornered fight for the seat. - - Mkini
