Lau Lodges Report Over Hacked Twitter Account After Pulai Tweet
Gerakan president Dominic Lau lodged a police report last night, claiming his Twitter account has been hacked after an insensitive tweet was posted following the death of Salahuddin Ayub.
"Earlier, I was present at the Sri Hartamas police station to lodge a report over the hacking of my Twitter account by an unidentified individual,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.
Lau added the report was to inform that he had never posted such a controversial tweet, which had since gone viral.
This came after an uproar on social media over the tweet posted on Lau’s account yesterday - about him allegedly toying with the idea of contesting for the Pulai parliamentary seat.
The tweet - which has been deleted - was posted barely an hour after the Pulai constituency’s incumbent, the late Salahuddin, was laid to rest.
“Is it OK if I contest in the Pulai by-election?” according to a screenshot of the tweet posted at 12.37pm yesterday.
When contacted yesterday, Lau sent Malaysiakini an image declaring the tweet as “fake”.
He later told Malaysiakini the account was his but had been “hacked”.
Salahuddin, a two-term Pulai MP, passed away at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar at 9.23pm on Sunday after undergoing surgery due to a brain haemorrhage. He was 61.
Salahuddin held the domestic trade and cost of living minister portfolio and was also Amanah’s deputy president.
In the last general election, Gerakan represented Perikatan Nasional in a three-cornered fight for the seat. - Mkini
