Uproar In Parliament Over Hulu Langat Mp S Civil Attitude
KUALA LUMPUR: Newly minted Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Alice Lau was forced to quell a brief shouting match in Parliament.
The incident happened during some banter between Mohd Sany Hamzah (PH-Hulu Langat) and Datuk Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang) on Tuesday (Feb 14).
Awang stood up to interject Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (PH-Ledang) who was debating, praising Mohd Sany for his civil and rational behaviour in the House.
Awang had alluded to Mohd Sany's previous shouting match he had with Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) when the Dewan Rakyat met for the first time on Dec 19 last year.
This triggered a response from Mohd Sany who said that Awang was jealous of him and should also behave in the same manner as him.
"I wish to state that we have to be factual in the elections if we want to get the vote from the rakyat. We have to fight facts with facts and not with bribes.
"For our voters, money equates to giving bribes.
"The other side should reflect on the attitude, civility and integrity as an elected representative," Mohd Sany retorted.
This drew a response from Shahidan who told Mohd Sany to sit down as the floor belonged to Syed Ibrahim.
Both Mohd Sany and Shahidan kept on shouting at each other to sit down amidst jeers from MPs from both sides of the House.
This prompted Lau to remind both men not to waste time, ordering Syed Ibrahim to continue with his debate.
Lau, the MP for Lanang, was appointed Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker on Dec 19. - Star
