Uob Kepong Shuts After Worker Gets Covid 19 Cimb Staff In Quarantine
COVID-19 | United Overseas Bank's (UOB) Kepong branch has been temporarily closed until Oct 5 for disinfection after its employee tested positive for Covid-19 following a trip to Sabah.
At the same time, CIMB confirmed that five staff at its Kota Damansara branch have been quarantined after close contact with an individual who tested positive.
However, the CIMB Kota Damansara remains open and has been sanitised, the bank told Malaysiakini.
It is unclear if this person is the staff member, a mortgage specialist, at UOB.
UOB said the specialist was infected after visiting Lahad Datu and Semporna from Sept 10 to 13.
The bank added that contact tracing among staff and customers are underway.
This is the first known case of infection in Peninsular Malaysia by someone who had a travel history to Sabah, following the rise in cases there in the past month.
Confirming the case, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said no cluster has been detected so far related to the UOB employee, who is now being treated at the Hospital Sungai Buloh.
Today the ministry announced 60 new cases in Sabah, including one new cluster - the seventh announced in the state this month.
A total of 41 are in the Benteng LD cluster, mostly involving detainees in Tawau and Lahad Datu.
While most cases in the recent wave in Sabah are found in detention centres, a growing number are detected in the community on the east coast and also in Likas, Kota Kinabalu and Beaufort.
A total of 1,189 cases have been reported in Sabah since the outbreak started in January.
The total number of cases in Malaysia is 10,358 while the death toll stands at 130 cases.
