Unrepentant Najib Is Still In Denial
MP SPEAKS | There are too many quotable quotes on lies. One of them reads, "you can't constantly lie and expect people to trust you".
Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's recent shocking statement in Parliament only reflects his utter unremorsefulness.
He was reported to have said that the payment of the 1MDB's colossal debt does not involve taxpayers' money. Whose money then, Mr Najib?
Many economists easily dismiss his absurd claim. Damansara MP Tony Pua has filed a motion in Parliament under Order 36 ( 12 ) of the Standing Orders in order to refer Najib to the Committee of Privileges.
Najib is accused of misleading the august house. Whether the speaker is going to allow or dismiss the motion remains to be seen.
For the sake of argument, let us assume Najib is right in his claim. Does it mean he is blameless?
Najib may not realise his weird claim has given rise to the following concern - there is a huge debt unduly inflicted by 1MDB. Did this debt appear all of a sudden?
Bribing politicians
As of Dec 31 last year, the finance ministry told us that the debt was in the sum of RM38.81 billion.
Who then is responsible for creating this debt in the first place?
Was the debt incurred due to a legitimate business pursuit?
Was the huge debt of 1MDB free from any element of graft and money laundering?
Former Goldman Sachs banker Tim LeissnerWas Tim Leissner lying through his teeth in saying he and Roger Ng had to bribe the Malaysian politicians in order to do business in Malaysia?
Was the 1MDB debt incurred for the benefit of all Malaysians or for certain individuals only?
Was the payment of US$10 million for a property in London part of the investment or the purchase of silence?
Like it or not, Najib can't run away from the mind-boggling revelations by Tim Leissner in court during Roger Ng's trial in the New York Federal Court.
One thing is for sure, the trial of Roger Ng has managed to convince all Malaysians of the culpability of Najib in the 1MDB saga.
Perhaps the phrase "national embarrassment" duly coined by the Malaysian court of appeal in describing the true nature of the scandal of 1MDB was apt and appropriate.
Najib may try to express a feigned innocence in the " dirtiest heist of the world", can he deny his guilty conscience too? - Mkini
