Umno Youth Head Fumes Religious School In His Constituency Needs 8 Months To Procure 34 Chairs
TRUE to the adage that credit should be given if credit is due, pro-Pakatan Harapan (PH) keyboard warriors have showered praises on defiant UMNO Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh for ticking off the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) over delays in the procurement of chairs for a religious school in his constituency.
The Merlimau state assemblyman who made a stop-over at the school following complaints from parents was surprised at how bureaucracy – or rather the lackadaisical attitude – has resulted in the 34 pupils having to sit on the floor with low tables for their lessons since school started in December last year.
This was when he lost his cool and berated a JAIM officer in attendance on where the chairs are when allocations had been approved for the school since December itself.
When pressed further by Akmal as to how much more time is required for the furniture to arrive, the state EXCO for Rural Development, Agriculture, and Food Security Committee was stunned that a further three months are needed which means the pupils would have sat on the floor for a total of eight months by then.
Akmal had even gone to the extent of making a call to the Melaka state finance officer Datuk Salhah Salleh in front of the JAIM officer to verify if indeed allocation for the said school has been approved since December to which the answer is in the affirmative.
“The bureaucracy in JAIM is the cause of the delay … We’re all civil servants who serve the public. If this cannot be done, I can take this matter to the state exco and we reshuffle the entire JAIM,” lambasted the Russia-trained medical doctor.
“OK … I don’t want to hear more excuses … I’ll buy all the chairs myself next week … If you as a JAIM officer can’t do your job right for Malaccans, then just leave for we can find someone else who can do the job.”
Few social media influencers who had previously chastised Akmal for mooting a blanket ban on KK Super Mart previously have lauded the latter’s action for having unearthed the very existence of Little Napoleons who are capable of ruining he reputation of government agencies or public service.
