Umno Youth Backs Tuntutanrakyat Campaign For Moratorium Other Reliefs

Umno Youth and its Terengganu chapter have backed the #TuntutanRakyat online campaign to pressure the federal government into introducing more financial reliefs.
The campaign involved people posting photographs of themselves holding a placard with the type of reliefs that they believe were necessary.
Earlier today, Terengganu Umno Youth suggested campaign participants mention relief methods such as bank repayment moratoriums, Employees Provident Fund withdrawal schemes, utility bill discounts and cash handouts, among others.
This received the backing of Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, who accused Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz of being a minister that required a bit of nudging.
"That is his style. We have to appeal continuously, then he will hand out a little bit (of relief)," wrote Asyraf on his Facebook page.
Asyraf said Umno Youth's position was that a blanket "automatic" bank repayment moratorium should be offered to anyone who falls in the B40 or M40 category, as well as small and medium businesses.
He said this moratorium should not incur any charges on the borrower.
"Help the people who are suffering. They need this. We are receiving hundreds of complaints daily about people having trouble with the banks," said Asyraf.
Earlier today, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he has been receiving complaints as well on banks making it very difficult for bona fide repayment moratorium applicants.
Although Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the moratorium scheme was supposed to be "automatic" for those who qualified, some businesses told Malaysiakini that the reality was much different.
Top local banks have been doing very well last year and during the first quarter of this year. Most bank CEOs also received a substantial pay increase last year.
