Umno Pas Leaders To Meet Sunday For Coordination Committee Briefing
(NST) – Umno and Pas are set to further enhance their Muafakat Nasional (MN) political pact with the setting up of the Implementation and Coordinating Committee at parliamentary constituencies nationwide.
Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa said both parties’ top leaders from all parliamentary constituencies will attend a workshop in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday to discuss details to expand their political cooperation at grassroot level.
“All the state Umno and Pas liaison committee chairmen, deputies and secretaries will be present along with the division leadership. Excluding those in Sarawak, there are 191 divisions (parliamentary constituencies) that will be involved and the focus is certainly on MN in Peninsular Malaysia.
“Takiyuddin (Pas’ secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan) and myself will brief the Umno and Pas leaders on the setting up of the Implementation and Coordinating Committee at both state and parliament constituencies.
“This will be a detailed briefing on our next step to coordinate cooperation on the ground,” he told reporters after visiting the Felda Chini 4 district polling centre here today.
Annuar described the move as a proactive step by MN as they steer forward to formalise their cooperation at all the parliamentary constituencies and work towards deploying their election machinery on the ground in the next general election.
“Each division will have their own committee which will decide on the types of programes to be conducted by MN at the parliamentary constituencies as part of the early preparations to face the elections.
“Since MN has worked closely to campaign and organise programmes during the Chini by-election, we will use it as a benchmark and look at the areas that require improvements to be applied nationwide.
“Our aim is to ensure the committee executes its duty and works towards ensuring all the plans become a success to face the 15th General Election,” he said.
On a separate matter, Annuar rubbished talks about a purported list of Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidates for the next general election which had gone viral describing it as fake and a mischievous act.
“It was spread by irresponsible quarters for their own agenda. It was meant to create some confusion and mess within PN component parties.
“However, the tactic did not go as planned as PN knows what we have been doing. We are still in the midst of discussions and I am involved in the negotiations so I am aware of the situation,” he said.
The purported list went viral last week allegedly containing the names of 194 PN candidates who will contest in the next general election.
