Umno Not A Political Transit Point Puad Warns Zafrul

Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi has reminded Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz not to take the party lightly.
Puad (above) stated that Umno is not a political transit point.
He further said that even if the Kota Raja Umno chief decided to leave the party, it would have no impact on Umno.
“According to Zafrul, after meeting (Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi), he wants to continue working. Is this a signal that he is not leaving Umno? Has he had a change of heart, or is he just waiting for things to cool down?
“Why does he want to leave Umno? Does he want to keep his cabinet position? The truth is, Umno members do not mind if he goes.
“Don't play games with Umno. Umno is not a political transit point,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Don’t rush
Puad was commenting on Zafrul’s statement yesterday that his focus now is to return to work as usual after the investment, trade and industry minister recently met Zahid regarding his intention to leave Umno and join PKR.
On Wednesday, Zahid was reported to have advised Zafrul not to rush into a decision to join PKR.
Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul AzizIn December last year, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that initial discussions had taken place within the party regarding rumours of Tengku Zafrul’s entry into PKR.
Anwar said PKR is open to accepting any individual into the party, provided they can contribute meaningfully.
However, Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki stated that the party would not allow party-hopping among members of the unity government.
On Feb 10, Zafrul said he would consult Zahid before making a final decision on the matter.
Further commenting on the issue, Puad said that Zafrul’s intention to join PKR is no longer a secret.
However, Puad claimed that Tengku Zafrul’s PKR membership status remains “pending”.
“It is no secret that he wants to join PKR. But his move was stalled because it leaked too early.
“PKR is afraid of being accused of backstabbing Umno. Therefore, it is understood that his membership in PKR is still ‘pending’," said Puad.
Puad also noted that Tengku Zafrul has not been attending supreme council meetings, including a recent meeting on Wednesday. - Mkini
