Umno Man Backs Warisan Rival On Sulu Award Debate
Former Kota Belud MP Abdul Rahman Dahlan has backed his successor Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis’ attempt to convince the Dewan Rakyat to debate the arbitration award which favoured purported heirs of the Sulu sultanate.
Rahman (above) wrote on his Facebook page yesterday that many MPs, especially those from Sabah, had many questions which they want to ask the government.
“Parliament is the best platform for the government to answer these questions and explain government plans to handle the matter,” he said.
Rahman said he believed that Isnaraissah Munirah will be refiling her motion for a debate to the Dewan Rakyat speaker’s office and he hoped it will be allowed.
“The speaker and the government must understand that the arbitration award and Sabah's security are important issues to the people of Sabah.
“Do not allow (Isnaraissah Munirah’s) motion to be rejected again, which will incur the wrath of the people of Sabah,” he said.
Rahman was a two-term Kota Belud MP and former federal cabinet minister. During the 2018 election, he was fielded as BN's candidate for Sepanggar but did not win.
On Monday, Isnaraissah Munirah was suspended from the Dewan Rakyat for insisting that the arbitration award be debated. That suspension expires today.
Earlier this year, descendants of the Sulu sultanate had secured an arbitration award against Malaysia to the tune of US$14.92 billion (RM62.59 billion).
Following this, the claimants enforced the arbitration award by seizing two Petronas subsidiaries in Luxembourg on July 11.
The next day, Malaysia had secured a stay of execution on the arbitration award from the Court of Appeal in France. - Mkini
