Umno Leaders Pile Pressure On Govt To Announce Decision On Adib S Case

Pressure is being mounted on the government to announce developments surrounding the fresh probe into the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.
Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki in a statement today said the announcement was necessary to ensure that Adib's family are not left in the dark.
"The longer this case is left delayed, there will be a stronger perception of denied justice for Adib's family," he told Malaysiakini.
Last December, the government reaffirmed its commitment to deliver justice for Adib's family who said they were left in a state of uncertainty despite an inquest that ruled he died due to a criminal act by unidentified assailants.
"It has been one year and four months since the Coroner's Court delivered its findings that Adib died due to a criminal assault.
"In fact, the government's promise last December was to expedite the probe, said to be in the final stages but until now there have no announcements on the progress," said Asyraf.
At the time, de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan said any further action by the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) was subject to the pending outcome from ongoing police investigations.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin said police are in the final stages of the new probe and would submit their findings to the AGC.
It is understood that to date, no further actions have been taken by the government.
When contacted, Umno supreme council member Razlan Rafii echoed Asyraf's call for justice to be delivered.

"I urge the government to expedite the late Adib's case. Don't let it fade away without a trace. The dignity of a civil servant must be upheld," he said.
"I don't understand why it is taking so long for this case to be resolved and it looks like our legal system has failed to find the best solution for Adib's parents in seeking justice," he said.
It was previously reported that an appeal filed by Muhammad Adib's father, Mohd Kassim Abdul Hamid, will be heard on May 28.
The appeal was filed against a High Court decision which allowed the application of former attorney-general Tommy Thomas to set aside the committal proceedings filed against him.
In his committal proceedings application, Mohd Kassim, 67, claimed that Thomas had insulted the court through an affidavit filed by the AGC on April 3, 2019, regarding the cause of his son's death.
Muhammad Adib, 24, was a member of the Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit from the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Station who sustained serious injuries during a fracas at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya on Nov 27, 2018.
On Sept 27 last year, the Shah Alam Coroner's Court ruled that the firefighter’s death was the result of a crime committed by more than two or three unknown persons. - Mkini
