Umno Join Bersatu Mp Says More Appropriate That Mca Joins Dap
A DAP lawmaker has entered the fray in the ongoing tit-for-tat between Umno and Bersatu, suggesting that MCA - a government partner - is the party that should be disbanded and absorbed into another.
Kampar MP Chong Zhemin said Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin’s recent proposal for Umno to dissolve and join Bersatu was, in fact, “more appropriate” to be directed to MCA.
“Today, MCA holds only two parliamentary seats, both located in Malay-majority constituencies. In truth, MCA only won because of votes from Umno supporters. MCA no longer represents the Chinese community,” Chong said in a statement.
“Therefore, I urge MCA to return these two seats to Umno and take the bold step of dissolving the party and joining DAP - for the sake of the country’s future and the struggle for diversity, justice, and progress.”
Muhyiddin’s statement yesterday was made in response to the Umno Veterans’ Club’s initial suggestion for Bersatu leaders to disband the party and join Umno.
This comes after Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin expressed the party’s readiness to cooperate with Umno as both parties share a similar ideology.
However, Chong trained his sights on MCA, accusing the party of political irrelevance and silence on key issues.

MCA members“They have failed to play a check-and-balance role within the government and more often than not, choose silence when faced with extremist remarks,” he said.
“Now, they accuse DAP of being vague in its stance, when in reality, this is merely a tactic to mask their own growing irrelevance.”
He further claimed that MCA’s dwindling electoral support across the last three general elections was due to the party’s absence on the ground.
“What’s even more shameful is that MCA continues to attack DAP while relying on Umno votes to survive. No principles, no dignity.
“If even those two seats were won on the back of Umno voters’ support, then return them to Umno as a mark of respect for your coalition partner,” Chong added.
ADS‘Reasonable decision’
Previously, Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi urged MCA to stop blaming BN for its waning support, instead calling on the party to reflect on its own performance following BN’s post-general election cooperation with Pakatan Harapan.
This was in response to MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon’s suggestion for his party to consider charting its own path if BN continued to drag its feet on setting a clear direction.
Reiterating his call, Chong Zhemin concluded: “MCA should not continue to exist within a failed framework.
“It would be better for them to pool their energy and experience into a party that is genuinely driving change.
“If MCA truly still has a sense of responsibility to the people, the most reasonable decision they could make is to dissolve the party and join DAP - not continue attacking and deceiving themselves.” - Mkini
