PETALING JAYA: Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) said it has reviewed and tightened its procedures and monitoring mechanisms for uniformed body co-curricular activities following the death of a cadet at its reserve officer training unit.
UiTM expressed deep concern over the death of the cadet, and said it would fully cooperate with investigations, Bernama reported.
Investigations would be carried out by both the police and the armed forces investigation board, it said.
“UiTM is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all its students,” it added.
Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported that 25-year-old cadet Amir Rusyaidi Zaidi died on Nov 13 following an impromptu training session three days earlier.
The deceased’s father, Zaidi Abdul Rahman, had filed a police report claiming that his son was stepped on the chest, forced to act like a horse with a trainer on his back, and also ordered to hop like a kangaroo.
He claimed these actions were recorded on video by the trainer involved, and that Amir collapsed after the session and remained in a coma until he died.
The armed forces said earlier that the air force’s provost marshal unit would investigate the case and vowed that those found responsible would not be protected.
Higher education minister Zambry Abdul Kadir also said UiTM would submit a full report on the incident. - FMT
