Human resources minister Steven Sim said he had discussed the matter with home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail after being sworn in.BUKIT MERTAJAM: Officials of the human resources ministry are to hold discussions with the home ministry on having one ministry take responsibility for matters related to foreign workers.
Human resources minister Steven Sim said the discussions would also delve into details of policy and operational issues, especially concerning jurisdiction on matters related to foreign workers.
He said “the first thing I did a day after being sworn in was to meet and discuss with the home minister (Saifuddin Nasution Ismail)”, Bernama reported.
Among the issues to be discussed is the issue of foreign workers and jurisdiction of the two ministries. “We will make an announcement after the discussion,” he told reporters after visiting Bukit Mertajam Hospital today.
Sim, who is MP for Bukit Mertajam, had been asked to comment on suggestions that foreign workers be placed under the jurisdiction of one ministry.
He added he had reviewed all the departments and statutory bodies under his ministry and would continue the efforts of the previous ministers.
“The Cabinet changes took place within the same government and we will ensure that there is continuity in good policies; any policies that need improvement, we will work on them after this,” he said.
He asked to be given some time to study his ministry and departments but also the policies and “we will make an announcement from time to time”. - FMT
