KUALA TERENGGANU, May 23 - Two Terengganu government execs made a surprise visit to the Gong Pauh Wholesale Market here yesterday to ensure traders comply with the recently set price of controlled goods

A review by the chairman of the Agriculture, Agro-based Industry and Rural Development Committee, Dr Azman Ibrahim and Youth, Sports and NGO Committee Chairman Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah found that more than 90 per cent of traders were in compliance

"We are here to look at our own supply of goods and the price compliance of controlled goods such as chicken, meat, eggs, coconut and so on

"The wholesale market is being utilized by traders and consumers from around the area, Marang, Hulu Terengganu and Kuala Nerus

"I can say that the price of goods in the Gong Pauh Wholesale Market is a reflection of the average price for Terengganu," he told the media after the visit

Also present were Terengganu Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Directorate Saharuddin Mohd Kia, Kuala Terengganu City Council Mayor Shahidan Embok, State Agriculture Director Zulkepli Amin Mat Jusoh, State Veterinary Director Dr Mohd Termizi Ghazali and Director State Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM), YM Tengku Mohd Anuar Tengku Mahmod

According to Dr Azman, to ensure fairness and equality before implementing any price enforcement measures, they have rigorous standard operating procedures (SOPs)

"When a retailer is expensive, they are not subject to action. It is important to consider how much they are getting from wholesalers and how much they can get from suppliers

"All stages of the production chain will be examined. Also monitored are the prices of agricultural inputs such as fertilizers, poisons and livestock," he said

Meanwhile, commenting on the supply of food by Aidilfitri tomorrow, he said everything was sufficient

"Various sales of vegetables and fruits here come from within and outside Terengganu. To date, there have been no complaints about inadequate supply," he added
