Tun Faisal Is Latest Umno Man To Be Sacked

Former Putrajaya Umno deputy chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had betrayed the voters by working with political parties whose ideologies differed from that of Umno. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, who has been a vocal critic of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, was sacked with immediate effect from the party today.
In a Facebook post, the former Putrajaya Umno deputy chief said he was informed of his sacking this evening.
Tun Faisal said he was alleged to have breached many rules, but did not elaborate further.
However, he said he would not be submitting an appeal, unlike the time when he was suspended.
“This is because I can anticipate the outcome, especially when it has been proven that the supreme council and Zahid are not open to criticism,” he said.
In 2021, Tun Faisal had his membership suspended for six years after demanding Zahid make a statutory declaration to deny allegations that he had backed Anwar Ibrahim’s bid to be the next prime minister.
He went on to blame Zahid for causing rifts in Umno and accused him of betraying Umno supporters by working with Anwar to form a unity government.
Tun Faisal claimed that Zahid had also betrayed the voters by working with political parties whose ideologies differed from that of Umno.
He said the decision to purge leaders who were against Zahid and efforts to stop the contest for the presidency and deputy presidency would see Umno members and supporters shy away from the party.
“As long as Zahid remains president, Umno will be beyond repair.”
News of Tun Faisal’s sacking comes days after former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and former Umno Selangor chief Noh Omar were given the boot.
Khairy and Noh were sacked for breaching party discipline during the 15th general election. Khairy, too, said he would not be appealing his sacking.
Other Umno members who were sacked include five from the Pasir Gudang division, nine from Putrajaya, two from Tanjung Karang, and 26 from Pahang. - FMT
