Toll Free Travel On 33 Highways For Aidilfitri
Malaysians will get to enjoy toll-free travel on all highways nationwide for a total of four days: from April 19 to 21 and again on April 24 in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festivities, the prime minister has announced.
Anwar Ibrahim said the toll-free highway will apply to all types of vehicles on 33 highways.
“This can reduce the cost of paying tolls for those who will return back to their hometown to celebrate, as well as make it easier to plan,” he said during a press conference in Putrajaya today.
Anwar also announced a “special discount” for traders taking part in Menu Rahmah due to the success of the initiative.
Hotspots
The prime minister said items such as chicken, onions and other essentials will be discounted at selected supermarkets.
“Hopefully, this will relieve traders and benefit the less fortunate,” he added.
Prime Minister Anwar IbrahimOn April 18 and 19, the police will conduct Ops Lancar by focusing on routes expected to face a high volume of traffic.
Ops Selamat will be conducted on April 20 for seven days to control traffic in “hotspots” such as entrances and exits at toll plazas, Anwar said.
Each summons can be settled at the flat rate of RM50, but is not applicable to summons issued in 2023.
Anwar said that the police will also provide a discount on traffic summons from April 21 to May 21.
Selected prisoners
The prime minister also said that some 1,000 selected prisoners will be released by the Prisons Department under the Licensed Prisoner Release Programme, to celebrate the Aidilfitri festivities with their families.
“This will give Muslim prison inmates the opportunity to celebrate Aidilfitri with their beloved families and inmates of other religions are able to strengthen family ties.
“This release is carried out in all prison institutions involving the release of more than 1,000 prisoners throughout Ramadan and Syawal,” he said. - Mkini
