Time For Zahid To Separate The Fools And Wise
WHAT a way to bid farewell to 2019. I had hoped for the best of UMNO, Barisan Nasional and Muafakat Nasional. With a stunning victory at Tanjung Piai by-election, Kimanis will be a litmus test for us again.
With all preparations arranged for Kimanis, UMNO is being hit by tremor again. Apandi Ali is believed to have resigned as Disciplinary Committee chairman, Hishammuddin Hussein on the hashtag 'Hisham for PM' and Supreme Council member Lokman Adam sharpening his knife on party president Zahid Hamidi again.
All these are rocking the boat wildly !
With all indications pointing to calamity (if no concrete move is made), grassroots members are getting more disgusted than ever. Hoping that everything would be on a fine footing after all the sorrows of May 2018 defeat were overcome, they have this one question to ask the top leadership - why must we protect the few disloyal members at the expense of the party?
Excuse me, I didn't want to publicly comment on this matter but after reading thousands of comments and tat-for-tat statements by party leaders and their 'respective cadres' on the social media, I can't help but jotting down my personal observation (and some frustrations too, perhaps).
To me, UMNO can become better without the disloyal members. They tend to be chummy and pretend to be loyal but the fact that they find the back door for self political gain, is a stab in the back for the party. Must we defend these people? For how long?
In the Cabinet of Pakatan Harapan, there's someone who holds the button in making decision on who and who should succeed Dr Mahathir as the prime minister, or in making calls which and which party should form the government.
Knowing how much Dr M dislikes Zahid and a few others in UMNO, those who entered the backdoor consultation must be condemned as party traitors, hence there is no tangible excuse to defend and keep them.
I don't find the truth in Lokman's accusation that Zahid is protecting Hisham from Apandi who claimed that Hisham is 'well-protected' whenever UMNO and Zahid are concern. The explanation here is very logically simple. Zahid would't do anything foolish to put the party at rickety, let alone putting his presidency at stake.
Zahid definitely will not allow anything like this to jeopardise the trust in the high-flying Muafakat Nasional and Penyatuan Ummah with PAS. And moreover, he wouldn't let it to have a negative bearing on Kimanis by-election.
Now, Apandi's resignation letter has yet to reach sec-gen Annuar Musa. He maybe right and wrong to step down, citing his 'dignity' being above all. Did he consult Zahid or Mohamad Hasan or Annuar about it? Did he get the right picture about Lokman's accusation that Zahid has been protecting the Sembrong MP?
Where is Lokman's substantiated evidence that Zahid has been protecting his good buddy Hisham? I believe that Zahid always put the party interest above all. No matter how close he is with Hisham, he is the president now and all obstacles must be neutralised!
Sorry, but I have the right to be heard. Is Lokman fighting for Najib Razak, trying to make him PM again? Then it is totally wrong. Najib has avowed that he will not see a new term as PM should BN rules again, unlike that crazy old horse who needed to seat to protect his children and cronies.
With whom is Lokman working? The former 'First Lady?". What actually is their game when the government is finding all valid reasons to de-register UMNO? Is this what Hisham also looks forward to so that when UMNO is gone, he will have the option to join any of PH components?
I am not against any of them but UMNO must move fast to mend all the broken hearts. Zahid too must return to the days when he was Pemuda Chief, strict and forward-thinking. It's time for him to straighten the line, now or never.
I've been with UMNO since 1981, and its unfortunate for Zahid to lead the party as an Opposition. However, it's all written in the lines of our palms. Time to see the party loyalists fortifying him and not to lose focus on those one or two culprits.
I wish to say no more...
