Time For A Perikatan Presidential Council As Not All Party Heads Are In Cabinet Says Pm At Bersatu Agm
PETALING JAYA: It is time for Perikatan Nasional to set up a presidential council of all Perikatan party heads and its allies as not all party presidents are in the Cabinet, says Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president said being in government as part of the Perikatan coalition gives the party the important role of working together with all other political parties, especially Umno and PAS, for the betterment of the people.
Muhyiddin said this while delivering his presidential address at the third Bersatu annual general meeting held virtually on Saturday (Nov 28).
He also said politics should be about assisting the people who are suffering due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its effect on the economy, not about wrestling for power or political position.
Muhyiddin also said that based on the win by Perikatan in the recent Sabah state election, he had decided that the Perikatan logo would be used in the next general election, which would only be held after the Covid-19 pandemic was over.
"The formation of Perikatan as a new political coalition is an important milestone in the country's politics.
"Perikatan is an important legacy and decision. It combines PAS and Bersatu and will be a source of strength for the Malays and Muslims.
"We also have Sabah STAR and SAPP representing the bumiputra and non-bumiputra in Sabah," he said.
Muhyiddin also said Perikatan is also weighing the other parties who want to be part of the alliance to make it a national coalition to represent everyone.
"We cannot remain alone, we need the other parties to face the election and form a government.
"Alone, we may win seats but it will not be enough to form a government," said Muhyiddin.
He also said that the Perikatan logo would unite all its candidates and there would only be one Perikatan candidate in every seat.
"We were accepted by Sabahans because we were the image of Perikatan as a functioning government with the welfare of the rakyat as its priority. I believe in the next general election, Perikatan will be accepted by the whole country.
"No need to speak politics when people are suffering from the pandemic and the bad economy," Muhyiddin said.
He further said that Bersatu's aim will be to remain as a party for all, continuing its efforts which had rolled out the RM305bil stimulus packages and the biggest Budget as a caring government for all races and religions.
The virtual AGM via FB Live linked Bersatu leaders and members gathered at 14 places nationwide including hotels and state party headquarters.
