TikTok, the leading destination for mobile video, launches its #ThinkTwice campaign to empower Malaysians to take an active role in fostering a safe and positive online space in collaboration with Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (CMCF), All Women's Action Society (AWAM) and Mental Illness Awareness and Support Association (MIASA).
#ThinkTwice encourages the online community to take a step back and reflect on what they share, comment, and post online through informative and educational content, webinars, and resources. These include an extensive resource hub housing educational materials on TikTok's Community Guidelines, a guide to TikTok's safety features, NGO support channels, and inspiring content by Malaysia's top creators.
"At TikTok, we encourage our users to have the freedom and opportunity to express themselves authentically and creatively in a safe and positive environment," said Anuar Fariz Fadzil, Head of Public Policy for Malaysia at TikTok. “Through #ThinkTwice, in partnership with CMCF, AWAM, and MIASA, we want to empower Malaysians to take responsibility of their online actions and encourage them to contribute to a healthy and positive online community."
Mediha Mahmood, CEO of Communications and Multimedia Content Forum Malaysia stated, "Through the #ThinkTwice campaign with TikTok, we encourage the practice of self-regulation by being mindful of the content we share and respectful of the comments we post. Our interactions in the digital world reflect who we are as individuals and as a society. We owe it to ourselves to be a positive example that others can look up to and follow."
Join the Cause: #ThinkTwice
TikTok encourages users to use the hashtag to play a more active role in fostering safer communities by creating and sharing positive and informative content.
Influential Malaysian TikTok Creators, such as @yimotapir and @wfsufina, have joined the #ThinkTwice cause. The former, a winner of the Animation Creator of the Year at the TikTok Awards 2024, imparted positive messages and raised awareness of TikTok's in-app safety functions through creative animations, while the latter, known for her educational and informative content, reminded users of the platform’s community guidelines and offered useful tips on how users can proactively protect themselves. Additionally, TikTok creator @ggatorart has also joined the movement, using her platform and content to raise awareness on the impact of words and remind the online community to always be kind to each other.
LIVE Sessions
TikTok will also be holding a series of LIVE sessions in line with World Mental Health Day in October, featuring mental health professionals, experts and LIVE creators. The sessions will consist of important conversations around mental health and provide viewers with invaluable resources and learnings on how to identify and manage their encounters with mental health.
